A note from Concertmaster Julia Cash

Dear Pro Arte Supporters,
It is with great joy and pride that I write you this letter in my first official season as Pro Arte’s new Concertmaster. As a longtime member of the violin section, I have known Pro Arte musicians in different roles and settings over the years, and I have always enjoyed performing with these wonderful colleagues. So, it is thrilling to come full circle to become a leader in this exquisite group and to continue to perform for you!
We just concluded a season filled with our own talented musicians and unparalleled guest conductors and soloists. The feelings of elation and joy from our final orchestral concert in May are still with me and bring a smile to my face. In fact, Jonathan Blumhofer of Boston Classical Review gave us an outstanding overall review, noting that our performance of the Florence Price piece ”was close to ideal: for tonal blend, balance, and grasp of the score’s expressive essence, Lee and Pro Arte left little to be desired.” (Click for the full review.)
As we begin Season 46, I have so much enthusiasm to help realize Pro Arte’s vision. As musicians, we use our talents to try to enrich lives and give back to the world. As a Cooperative, Pro Arte musicians themselves handcraft our concerts to highlight the most exciting artists we know, new commissions, and the classics that we all adore, all in a collaborative, democratic, and fresh way. In our new season, we have plans to offer some concerts that are family-friendly and to provide outreach to nearby immigrant communities. We will also continue our superb Salon Series of chamber concerts.
Please help us continue the work we do to enrich our community by doing two things:
-
Subscribe to Season 46. In subscribing, you will not only get discounted tickets, but you will be helping us better plan ahead financially; and
-
Make a donation of any amount to Pro Arte at www.proarte.org/donate., or by mailing a check to Pro Arte at P.O. Box 590295, Newton, MA 02459. Small professional non-profit arts groups like Pro Arte count on donations from music fans like you! Ticket prices cover only a fraction of the costs to put on a concert and pay our players.
I look forward to welcoming you in person at one of our concerts next season. I would love to hear your ideas about what you would like to see at Pro Arte. Please reach out to me in person or send your ideas to me at concertmaster@proarte.org. As the new Concertmaster, I will always give my 100% to Pro Arte both musically and creatively. I hope you will join me in helping to write the future of our great organization. We cannot do it without you!
Best wishes for a happy, healthy summer,
