Pro Arte, now in its 44th season and based in Newton, is a professional, musician-led cooperative chamber orchestra, which performs three to four concerts each season, as well as several chamber music concerts (Salons). The concertmaster will be expected to serve on the Players Committee, as well as occasionally take on other non-performing roles as a member of the cooperative.
Founded in 1978 by Harvard chaplain and visionary Larry Hill, Pro Arte is one of only four cooperative orchestras in the country. Unlike traditional orchestras, Pro Arte’s players, as well as the conductor, decide what music the Orchestra will perform and who the guest artists will be.
