Susan Gottschalk loves to show her students how music can be incorporated into all parts of their lives and if they are competent on an instrument, it can only enhance their experiences, both in and out of the music world. She teaches mostly classical music with a little fiddle thrown in for a change of pace.
She likes to have her students be proficient on their instrument as well as learn the discipline of playing it. Susan gives them a sense of the composers and periods of music they are learning. As she says, “My goal is to have my students continue to use their music for the rest of their lives, professionally or non-professionally, for enjoyment, giving the gift of music to others and finding a wonderful way to express themselves.”
Her extensive experience includes teaching at Indian Hill Music, The Fenn School, Lincoln Public Schools, and a faculty member at Greenwood Music Camp. She’s led numerous performance workshops and has given talks about various violin and viola techniques.
In addition to teaching, she loves to perform, proclaiming, “I love performing in chamber music groups and symphony orchestras. Playing in the pit for an opera and musicals is extra special!”
Susan received a Bachelor of Music from Boston University and completed further studies at the Suzuki Institute of Ithaca, as well as at the University of Colorado. An avid freelancer, Susan has been a member of The Orchestra at Indian Hill and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra.
When not playing music, Susan loves to read, walk, knit scarves, and do Tai Chi.
