RICHARD WAGNER Siegfried Idyll
ELENA LANGER Concerto for Trumpet and Chamber Orchestra (World Premiere)
ANTONIN DVORAK Czech Suite, Op.39
Pro Arte welcomes James Burton, Conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and Boston Symphony Orchestra trumpeter Benjamin Wright for its season finale. Richard Wagner’s warm Siegfried Idyll, composed as a loving birthday gift to his wife Cosima, conveys the contentment of the couple with their new son Siegfried on a glorious morning in their villa on Lake Lucerne. In her Trumpet Concerto, contemporary Russian-British composer Elena Langer examines the musical textures and procedures of the Baroque era through a 21st-century lens. In much of his music, Antonín Dvořák was inspired by the diverse dances of his native Bohemia. His Czech Suite features a rolling pastorale, a nimble polka, a minuet-like sousedská, a lilting romance, and a dashing furiant.
