Every Wednesday, we feature one Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra member to answer some fun questions about themselves. Today we will be hearing from Lena Wong, our newest member in our violin section.
I started violin in fourth grade at my local public school, mostly because that was the instrument my older sister played. My mother was an amateur singer and pianist so there was always music at my house. Somehow my sister and I both became professional musicians. Hurray for music in the public schools!
What is your non-musical hobby?
Hmm, I don’t know that I have a non-musical hobby. I enjoy reading, doing crosswords with my family and playing Scrabble with friends, but those aren’t really hobbies. (I do play chamber music for fun, but that doesn’t count as a non-musical hobby…)
What do you like most about being a musician?
I really like playing music with others. I love being part of an ensemble, whether it’s a chamber group or an orchestra. For me, the best way to enjoy music is by playing it. Better yet, I get to call that my “work.”
Who is your musical hero?
My heroes are all the musicians in Pro Arte and other groups that keep music alive in our community. Live music really IS best!
