Symphony No. 40
PACO Anniversary Commission
Pro Arte welcomes back Kevin Rhodes for its anniversary finale, opening with Michael Daugherty’s 1999 opus Sunset Strip, which takes the listener on a vivid tour of this famed Los Angeles locale. Aaron Copland’s sober and jazzy Clarinet Concerto comes next, featuring stellar BSO clarinetist Thomas Martin, in a piece originally composed for Benny Goodman. Also on the program is Mozart’s energetic Symphony No. 40 – our nod toward Pro Arte’s forty-year history. This concert, and our anniversary season, concludes with the world premiere of a festive new work by Somerville composer Howard Frazin in honor of Pro Arte’s birthday.
