Jean Haig is the principal violist of the Boston Ballet Orchestra and a violist with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. A resident of the Boston area for over 35 years, she has performed with many Boston- area music organizations, including the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops, the Boston Classical Orchestra, the New England String Ensemble, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the American Schubert Quartet, and the Arriaga Quartet. She also improvises on viola and violin with her church’s worship band and teaches both instruments.
Ms. Haig is a graduate of Smith College, and earned her Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory. Her principal teachers were Scott Nickrenz (viola), Roman Totenberg, Philipp Naegele, and David Cerone (violin), and Josef Gingold (chamber music). She was formerly the principal violist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Indianapolis String Quartet.
