August Ramos, Bass

August RamosAugust Ramos currently studies double bass with Irving Steinberg. In November 2012, he placed second in the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and will perform the Vanhal Double Bass Concerto under conductor Max Hobart in March 2013. August is currently a member of the new Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra under conductor Benjamin Zander. Prior orchestras include two seasons with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra at New England Conservatory under Benjamin Zander, one season with the Boston Youth Orchestra under Federico Cortese, and the Brandenburg Chamber Ensemble at NEC under Aldo Abreu. August has played with the New Philharmonia Orchestra in Newton, a faculty concert at NEC under Aldo Abreu and with the Carr Collegium at NEC. In 2011 he attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and performed in the Young Artists Orchestra and attended the two-week double bass workshop lead by Todd Seeber. August spent the the summer of 2012 at the Aspen Music Festival and performed in the Aspen Opera Theater Orchestra and the
Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra while studying with Albert Laszlo. In Aspen he played in a masterclasses for bassists Edgar Meyer. August began his bass studies at the age of eleven with Randy Wong. He has benefitted from lessons with Todd Seeber and Dennis Roy. A senior and honors student at Brookline High School, August has played in the school orchestra for four years, has appeared in concert as soloist for the Dittersdorf Double Bass Concerto in E major and is in the High School Jazz Band. A composer, Augustʼs chamber pieces have been performed at Brookline High School and his arrangements performed by the Jazz Band.
